Glasgow City captain Rachel Corsie is hopeful they can progress to the last eight of the Champions League with a comeback against Arsenal at Petershill.

City trail the 3-0 from the first leg of their last 16 tie at Barnet and Corsie feels the Scots need to prove they belong in the competition.

"I think it's possible," said Corsie. "It's a big ask, they're a good side.

"To score four goals against them will be extremely tough, but it's something we have to believe in."

Scottish Premier League champions Glasgow have never progressed beyond the last 16 in the Champions League, while Arsenal are on course for their 12th successive appearance in the last eight.

"We have a point to prove to justify ourselves in this competition and being here at this level and this stage"

Steph Houghton, Danielle Carter and Ellen White were on target at the weekend.

Kelly Smith played the final 15 minutes of the first leg after spending nearly seven months on the sidelines with a shin injury.

And Arsenal manager Shelley Kerr is hopeful Smith can play some part again in Glasgow.

"We're trying to give her as many minutes as possible but we just have to wait and see how everyone recovers," she said.

"Kelly lifted the girls by being back in training. I think everyone forgets we've had her missing for the whole of this season and she's such a massive player to have missing so it's great to have her back."

Corsie thinks City did not give a good enough account of themselves in the first leg, which is something they aim to put right on Wednesday.

"We have a point to prove to justify ourselves in this competition and being here at this level and this stage," said Corsie.

"It's disappointing the result we got on Saturday. It wasn't what we had hoped to come back with. I think we could have done better, and we want to put that right.

"Arsenal are a top side and perhaps we set out defensively to limit them.

"We did that for large spells of the game and we lost poor goals, which, from my point of view is disappointing, because you get punished.

"When you give Arsenal time and space, that's what they do."
