Ashley Cole will miss Chelsea's Champions League clash tie in Germany on Tuesday.

The Blues defender is still feeling the effects of a rib injury and has been not risked ahead of a top-of-the-table meeting with Manchester City on Sunday.

However, Andre Schurrle, who missed Saturday's win 4-1 against Cardiff has travelled.

Both players trained at Chelsea's Cobham ground on Monday morning but only Schurrle was deemed fit enough to the Champions League Group E contest at the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen in Chelsea's first match in Germany since lifting the 2012 European Cup.

Chelsea were to travel to Dusseldorf on the eve of the match, with Jose Mourinho scheduled to address the media.

The Portuguese was sent to the stands during the defeat of Cardiff.

Mourinho found himself in trouble when he wandered way out of his technical area to complain at referee Andrew Taylor for accusing Branislav Ivanovic of time-wasting, the same offence that earlier saw the Cardiff keeper booked.

When the manager first remonstrated then refused to go quietly, Taylor pointed to the stands, prompting the most colourful boss in the Premier League to sit eight rows back from his dugout.
